In an unprecedented move, six Syrian radio stations announced on November 18, the launch of ‘ABRAJ’ organisation that will serve as their umbrella. The announcement was made after signing the Constitution of the organisation and the Code of Conduct.
The participating radio stations that are being listened to by hundreds of thousands of listeners inside and outside Syria are:
-      Alwan Radio
-      Arta FM
-      Hara FM
-      Nasaem Syria
-      Radio Ana
-      Sout Raya Radio
ABRAJ is a non-profit organisation that is not affiliated with any political party and does not support any armed or religious groups.
ABRAJ is based on principles of tolerance, democracy and diversity. Its goal is to ¨empower the Syrian independent radio stations through training courses in order to raise the standards of both journalism and management practices, as well as providing infrastructure and broadcast technology.
The goal of ABRAJ is not only to support these six radio stations, but it is rather seeking to create and support new local radio stations dedicated to promote easy access to information in Syria, and provide a balanced content that takes the people’s needs into consideration. The organisation is also developing solidarity mechanisms towards radio stations and journalists in emergency situations.
ABRAJ focuses on supporting the principles of independence and the diversity in the programs, in addition to the collaboration between its members to make its broadcast reach local communities and provide a wider representation of the Syrian people’s aspirations and cultures.
